Catapult is a free supported employment service for both employers and jobseekers. We are contracted to the Ministry of Social Development and receive financial support from the Canterbury Community Trust, Maurice Carter Charitable Trust, Lottery Grants Board, and the Christchurch City Council. Developed to support people into work, and to maintain a long term satisfying employment relationship for both employer and employee.
Supported employment consists of three steps. The process usually begins with an employment assessment. Information is gathered to establish the type of work which is appropriate and suitable for the jobseeker's needs. This may include vocational guidance, training or work experience.
The job search step includes developing an employment plan in which both the jobseeker and consultant are active in finding work.
Our service does not generally offer a list of vacancies from which jobseekers can choose. However, we do have excellent employer networks and access to a number of job banks.
Once in work, an employment support plan is developed. This is in accordance with the worker's identified needs and may include on the job or off site support, in an endeavour to contribute to the job being sustainable and satisfying. Where possible we include the employer in this process. It assists with a transparent, durable and sustainable employment relationship.
